Veteran's benefits briefing today
Released: December 10, 2007
If a person has a question about financial coverage, it is hard enough getting a live person on the phone let alone having someone come to your house to personally explain your coverage. For members of the military who have served or are currently serving, government representatives will be at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater for a benefits briefing at 5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 10, in Upham Hall, room 145.
A Veterans Association representative and an education officer from the National Guard will provide an overview of what benefits veterans, guard members or reservists should be receiving. They will also be on hand to field any questions students or members of the community may have about the ROTC programs at UW-Whitewater.
The main reason for the briefing is to ensure that veterans and members of the armed forces are receiving the correct information about education and financial benefits. This includes the G.I. Bill, scholarships and College Fund kickers. This will also be a time for veterans and members of the armed forces or future members to get acquainted with one another.
"Sometimes the amount that soldiers receive can change without them knowing and this could lead to the soldiers not receiving the proper amount of money they are entitled to for college," 2nd Lt. Ryan Yaun said. "Members from the ROTC department can also answer any questions about any additional money that can be received for joining the ROTC program here on campus."
The Army ROTC department and the Army National Guard will provide pizza and refreshments. For more information or any question, contact 2nd Lt. Ryan Yaun at (262) 472-6212 or yaunr@uww.edu.
