Student Delta Pi Epsilon chapter sweeps awards at conference

Released: February 25, 2008

Coming off the heels of an impressive showing at the Wisconsin Business Education Awards last fall 2007 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Delta Pi Epsilon (DPE), a University of Wisconsin-Whitewater honorary graduate society promoting excellence in research and teaching for business, swept the chapter awards at the DPE National Conference in New Orleans.

UW-Whitewater's Beta Theta chapter was awarded the "Chapter Recognition Award," "Chapter Service Project Award" and "Chapter Newsletter Award." Chapter members Sharon Esqueda, Greg Lippe and Michelle Gibson were all on hand to accept the awards on behalf of UW-Whitewater. "I think this is a true testament to both our graduate program here as well as our wonderful students," Lila Waldman, associate professor of business education, said. "Our program is growing. Most of our graduates will work in Wisconsin schools as teachers and advisors."

The conference was held in the historic French quarter on Bourbon Street, the neighborhood that was not destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. "The highlight of the conference was the fact that it was held in New Orleans," Waldman said. "I learned so much about the affected economies, both local and national."

Other professionals were present at the conference to inform attendees on the area in business communication, e-learning, financial education, and marketing education, among others.

Gibson also won the "DPE Chapter Leadership Award" for her outstanding leadership and service to her chapter.
