Outstanding Junior Award recipients named

Involvement in student activities, holding leadership roles and maintaining a high grade point average are what make Mitchell Paschen, Stacy Lesmeister, Molly Wiederholt and Jonathan Hetzel outstanding juniors and recipients of the 2008 Outstanding Junior Awards. 

To qualify, students must have good academic standing and have at least a 3.0 GPA, be currently enrolled and taking at least 12 academic credits at the time of receiving the award, must be a proven leader and involved on campus or in the community. Recipients are selected by each college and will be honored at the April 19 Founders Day Celebration.

Mitchell Paschen of Baraboo, an information technology infrastructure major and geography minor, is the recipient for the College of Business and Economics. He is involved in the Warhawk Marching Band, Warhawk Pep Band and Association of Information Technology Professionals. Paschen is the membership coordinator and regional liaison for the Jewish Student Organization, e-mail coordinator for freshman honor society Phi Eta Sigma, member of Honors Student Association and plans to join Beta Gamma Sigma.  After graduation he plans to enter into a career in global information systems or work at a small company as a network administrator.

Stacy Lesmeister of Hartford, a secondary math education major and special education minor, is the recipient for the College of Education. She has a 3.56 GPA and is the Student Math Association treasurer. Lesmeister is also involved in Phi Eta Sigma and the Student Wisconsin Education Assocaiation.  After graduation she plans to find a teaching position.

Molly Wiederholt of Cuba City, a double major in psychology and organizational communication, is the recipient for the College of Arts and Communication. She has a 3.89 GPA and is involved in Phi Eta Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies  and Colleges Against Cancer's Relay for Life.  After graduation she hopes to travel and find a job in event planning. Wiederholt also plans to attend graduate school for psychology and learn more about adolescent development and mental disorders.

Jonathan Hetzel of Whitewater, an English major and psychology minor, is the recipient for the College of Letters and Sciences. Hetzel has a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the HawkSquad (formerly Orientation Leaders), a resident assistant and is in the honors program. After graduation, he plans to attend graduate school to earn his masters degree in counseling. He also plans to work in student affairs in higher education and would like to be a hall director at a university.

Calli Matzke
of Juda, a choral and general music education major, is the UW-Whitewater Foundation Scholar award winner. She has a 3.98 GPA and is involved in the Collegiate Music Educators National Conference, Student National Association of Teachers of Singing, Warhawk Ambassadors and the Golden Key Honor Society.  After graduation she plans to teach middle school or high school choir, or elementary general music classes. Matzke also plans to direct a church or community choir and be active in community theatre.
