Former professor has art exhibition in Madison
Released: June 19, 2008
A new exhibit in the James Watrous Gallery of the Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters at the Overture Center for the Arts in Madison will feature the paintings of University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Emeritus Art Professor Amy Arntson.
Arntson’s paintings examine time and place as revealed in the contemplation of different bodies of water, exploring the variations of color and texture that comprise a “portrait” of a particular body of water.
Her paintings will be shown in a side-by-side solo exhibition with fellow artist Bruce Severson of Madison. The exhibition, “The Things We Know,” is named after a quote by environmentalist Aldo Leopold, “We only mourn the things we know.” Arntson started to have a new view on her paintings which inspired this latest exhibition. “I have started to think of my water paintings in the context of global change and potential loss,” she said.
The opening reception is on June 20 and the exhibition runs through July 27. The opening reception will feature Arntson speaking about her paintings.
The gallery is open Tue-Thu from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday and Saturday from
11 a.m.-8 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m and admission is free. For more information on the exhibition, go to www.wisconsinacademy.org
