Wisconsin First Lady Jessica Doyle praised the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Pre-College Academic Programs, calling them some of the best in the nation, during a visit to campus today.
“It’s great to be here again on such a beautiful day,” Doyle said. “UW-Whitewater is one of the best in the state, if not the nation, in its pre-college summer programs. This school is the honor role of preparation programs.”
Her campus tour included a visit with approximately 30 middle school students from Madison, Milwaukee and Racine participating in the two-week, residential GEAR UP program, as well as a visit with nearly 40 high school students from across the state in the ACT Preparation camp.
“I commend you for coming here over the summer,” she said. “You’ve opened up so many doors by being here. These camps will put you in great shape for higher education.”
Doyle added that she and the Governor have been working hard to get students like those attending UW-Whitewater’s pre-college academic summer camps prepared for college. “These programs are so important – thank you for going to school over the summer.”
Her campus visit ended with a conversation with a group of UW-Whitewater King/Chavez Scholars. “This university is known throughout the state as a school that reaches out to students of color. UW-Whitewater does a really wonderful job with that. I’m so glad you’ve selected UW-Whitewater.”
