Released: July 11, 2008

Students sometimes need a helping hand in their academic endeavors. Lois Smith, a marketing professor in the College of Business and Economics, is always willing to extend that helping hand and in recognition was recently awarded the Faculty Advisor Award of Excellence from the Professional Fraternity Association. The award is a reflection of her undying commitment to her students and their education.

This award is just one of many that Smith has won including the UW System Board of Regents Teaching Excellence Award, the University Academic Advising Award as well as the W.P. Roseman Excellence in Teaching Award, UW-Whitewater’s highest teaching award.

“I am so honored to have received the national advisor award, most especially because the students here at UW-Whitewater nominated me,” Smith said. “Working with PSE collegians has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career as a professor.”

Smith earned the award for her work with Pi Sigma Epsilon, a student sales and marketing organization. She serves as Pi Sigma Epsilon’s faculty advisor and serves as president on their national council. She was nominated for the award by current and former students involved in the organization.

The Professional Fraternity Association is an organization with a purpose of supporting collegiate organizations that are focused on professions such as business, medicine, or engineering.
