Important information regarding campus-wide e-mail policy

Released: August 28, 2008

To help reduce the number of e-mails the campus community receives on a daily basis, only items of campus-wide importance will be approved and sent out as a mass e-mail. The broadcast e-mail policy as stated will be followed.  We feel this will make campus-wide e-mail communication more effective and efficient.  This change is fully supported by the Chancellor’s Staff.

Items of campus-wide importance include:
- Operational information of significant interest and need for the faculty, staff, and/or students;
- Crisis communication;
- Unexpected change of date, time or place, or cancellation of campus- wide meeting or program;
- Obituary of current students, faculty and staff members or emeriti;
- Inclement weather announcement concerning campus closing or class interruption;
- Selected campus-wide surveys or polls approved by the chancellor or the assistant chancellor for Student Affairs.

As a result of this change, event announcements will no longer be approved or sent out as a mass e-mail.  Students, faculty or staff with campus-wide events are encouraged to use the campus featured events calendar. Student organizations with campus-wide events should work with Career and Leadership Development to have their event posted to the featured events calendar.  The campus community is also encouraged to forward their event information to University Marketing and Media Relations for consideration; however, event coverage is not guaranteed.

Individuals who plan to distribute event flyers through intercampus mail will be charged a $50 flat-fee.

Any questions should be directed to University Marketing and Media Relations at 262-472-1194 or ummr@uww.edu.
