Barbara Monfils honored for service to international communication association

Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Barbara Monfils recently was honored for her service to the International Association for Communication Sciences (IACS). The IACS is a professional organization composed of mostly professors who are devoted to studying human communication in all forms and bringing together ideas from other countries to gain a better understanding of communication.
During the annual conference regarding communication and global culture issues, Monfils was one of five individuals honored. She actively contributed throughout the conference, presenting both opening and closing remarks on behalf of the World Communication Association. She also gave a keynote address on the topic of transnational migration.
The IACS Board of Advisors is comprised of nine members, including Monfils, which come from different countries around the world. Since 2001, when the organization was founded, she has been able to attend three of the annual conferences, which focus on various communication issues.
Monfils’ area of research and expertise is international and intercultural political and health communication. She has taught Intercultural Communication, Persuasion, Small Group Communication, Interviewing and Speech 110 courses at UW-Whitewater. She has also led several travel-study courses and recently traveled to Peru.
