Terry Tumbarello elected president of regional organization

Terry Tumbarello, assistant director of university housing at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, was elected president of the Upper Midwest Region-Association of College and University Housing Officers at the organizations annual meeting,

“It’s a very humbling honor and I am very excited about becoming president,” Tumbarello said

Currently, Tumbarello is the organization’s associated treasurer and webmaster. Tumbarello will finish his two-year term as associated treasurer at the end of December, but will remain webmaster.

A couple of years ago, Tumbarello was approached by the organization’s search committee asking him to run for the presidency, but declined because he felt he wasn’t yet ready for the demanding position.

“I just wasn’t ready to take on a task that big at the time,” he said. “I had two other positions that I was serving and I wanted to excel at those first.”

Another opportunity came in June when he was again asked by the committee to run for president.

“This time I felt like I needed to move on and that I was ready to make that step, and with my term being up as treasurer I couldn’t see any better opportunity than now,” Tumbarello said.

Now Tumbarello will begin writing a new and exciting chapter for himself as he begins serving his three-year term as the organization’s president at the beginning of January. As president, Tumbarello will oversee the entire regional operation, including managing the executive board and presiding over meetings and conferences.

The organization is the regional residence life association for eight states: Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota and Wisconsin.
