First Midwest Regional AMA conference a success

December 5, 2008

A business is nothing without strong marketing and branding strategies. On Friday, Nov. 14, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s American Marketing Association gave students a glimpse into “Branding in a Multi-Channel World” at its first regional conference.

More than 150 students from across the Midwest attended the conference, including Carthage College, Columbia College (Chicago), Elmhurst College, Fox Valley Technical College, Marquette University, Northern Illinois University, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Milwaukee, UW-Oshkosh, UW-Parkside and UW-Whitewater.

The conference offered students an abundance of opportunities. Among the highlights of the day were a career corner, job fair and networking events with other students and employers. In addition speakers from global companies including Cramer-Krasselt, GMR Marketing, Google, Harley-Davidson, Lands’ End and Target were on hand to provide branding insight.

All of the speakers generated a large number of attendees. Google, Target, and Lands’ End, in particular, had more than 145 attendees each.

“Being our first conference we weren’t really sure what to expect,” Karan Smith, conference co-chair, said. “We are extremely pleased with the turnout of students as well as presenters.”

“UW-Whitewater AMA produced an excellent conference for the region, clean and tight production from start to finish,” Bill Blank, AMA alumnus and GMR Marketing speaker, added. “I was honored to participate.”
