UW-Whitewater calls for literary award applications and nominations

University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Chancellor Richard Telfer seeks nominations and applications for the sixth annual UW-Whitewater Regional Literary Award. The award recognizes writers who celebrate all that makes the Upper Midwest special.
The 2009 recipient was David Rhodes, author of "Driftles," among other titles.
Other awardees include Jane Hamilton, author of "Map of the World" and "The Book of Ruth." Michael Perry author of "Truck: A Love Story"; and "Population 485" and A. Manette Ansay, author of "Vinegar Hill," "Limbo" and "Blue Water." Marquette University professor C.J. Hribal was the first recipient and he was honored for the book, "The Company Car."
The author receives a $1,000 honorarium plus expenses to attend the award ceremony at UW-Whitewater. A dinner will be held in the author's honor, along with a reading and book signing.
The selection committee will accept submissions through Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009 and will make its decision in spring. The award will be presented to the winning author in October 2010.
The award will honor a living author who has demonstrated a regional connection to the Upper Midwest in his/her published works of prose, poetry, nonfiction or drama.
