UWW-TV to televise Saturday’s football game against Lakeland College

November 18, 2009

First-round television playoff coverage begins this weekend when the undefeated University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk football team takes on the Lakeland College Muskies (6-4) of Sheboygan.

Kick-off is at noon, Saturday, Nov. 21, at Perkins Stadium in Whitewater. The game will be televised live by the campus television station, UWW-TV, on Charter Channel 20 and video streamed via Penn Atlantic Corporation.

"At UW-Whitewater we have succeeded in turning our football stadium, basketball gym, volleyball arena and other facilities into learning laboratories for students interested in broadcasting," said Richard Haven, interim dean of the College of Arts and Communication. "The opportunity to be involved in the live television broadcast of an NCAA football playoff game is rare and represents a superb hands-on learning experience for our students."

Saturday's game marks UW-Whitewater's fifth straight post-season appearance in the NCAA Division III national football championship tournament. The Warhawks won the national championship in 2007.

If UW-Whitewater wins on Saturday, the team will advance to face the winner of the Wabash (9-1) versus Illinois Wesleyan (9-1) game. The second-round game will be played Saturday, Nov. 28, at a location to be announced.

Winning teams advance to quarterfinal competition on Saturday, Dec. 5, and semi-final competition on Saturday, Dec. 12. The national championship game will be played Saturday, Dec. 19, in Salem, Va.

If UW-Whitewater continues to host playoff games, the games will be broadcast live by UWW-TV on Channel 20 and video streamed via Penn Atlantic.
