This week, five students -- one from China and four from Brazil -- began studying at UW-Whitewater's Intensive English Institute, or IEI. The IEI offers four levels of English instruction, and students are also challenged to use their language skills to explore both the campus and community. Upon completing the program, students will take a year of coursework in their major field of study and spend the summer of 2015 in internships.
The 2014 IEI summer session lasts until Aug.15. A new cohort will be welcomed in the fall. IEI is a collaboration between the Center for Global Education, the School of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education, and the Department of Languages and Literatures. For more information, contact Karen Wislocky, coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 262-472-1494.
A group of UW-Whitewater staff is working to help international scholars transition to the community. Some scholar visits are as short as a couple of weeks and other visits could last the academic year. The group is looking for members of the UW-Whitewater community who can house scholars for either a few days, or potentially the entire duration of a scholar's visit. This is an opportunity to foster cultural exchange, global goodwill and international friendships.
