Votes needed to win People's Voice award

    April 16, 2010

The student-produced Web series GameZombie TV has been nominated for the 14th Annual Webby Awards in the student category. More than 40 students from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater are involved with the project.

UW-Whitewater students work with students from Indiana University to produce the award-winning Web series, which offers original series, exclusive interviews with game developers and coverage of major gaming conventions. This is the first year UW-Whitewater students worked on the web series, which was brought to UW-Whitewater by series creator Spencer Striker.

"The students here did a great job of understanding the work, picking it up and running with it," said Striker, UW-Whitewater faculty instructor and Creative Director of the project. "We've doubled the amount of students working on it, and I think the series has gotten twice as good."

GameZombie TV has already won two Webby Honoree Awards in the online video category in the past. The students responsible for the site would like this year to mark the first time the Web series wins The Webby People's Voice Award.

"Winning The People's Voice Award would make us the No. 1 student online video producers in the world," Striker said.

Hailed as the "Internet's highest honor" by the New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet. As one of only five nominees in its category, GameZombie TV is eligible to win The Webby Award and The Webby People's Voice Award.

To vote for Game Zombie TV, go to www.youtube.com/webby. From there, select the student category. Individuals can then enter an e-mail address and password to register to vote. After that, simply choose GameZombie TV for the People's Voice Award.

The student project is competing against entries from larger demographics, but Striker hopes that with student and community support, all the hard work that goes into producing the site will pay off with a trip to New York City in June for the award ceremony.

Voting for The Webby People's Voice Award ends April 29. Winners in all categories will be announced May 4.
