UW-Whitewater names Assistant Vice Chancellor for Enrollment and Retention

March 16, 2011

Matthew Aschenbrener has been named Assistant Vice Chancellor for Enrollment and Retention at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Provost Beverly Kopper said Aschenbrener brings a wealth of administrative and academic experience to the university.

“Dr. Aschenbrener comes highly recommended as an outstanding, collaborative leader and esteemed colleague,” Kopper said. “I look forward to working with him and welcoming him to the UW-Whitewater family.”

Aschenbrener will oversee student recruitment and retention programs, record keeping and reporting, and commencement. This is a new position, created after a Blue Ribbon Committee recommendation to coordinate these efforts under one leader. The university achieved this by reorganizing academic and student affairs units, with no new administrative lines added.

Aschenbrener comes from South Dakota State University, where he has served as Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs for Enrollment Management since 2005. He holds a doctorate in education from the University of Kansas and brings more than 15 years of higher education experience to UW-Whitewater.

“I was very impressed by the loyalty and dedication of the staff at UW-Whitewater,” Aschenbrener said. “I look forward to working with the many talented faculty, staff and students in this new position. My wife and I feel very fortunate to join the UW-Whitewater campus community.”

Provost Kopper extended her deep appreciation and gratitude to Jodi Hare for serving as Interim Director of the Registrar’s Office and the Office of Admissions. “Ms. Hare exemplifies the dedication, work ethic, collegiality and quest for excellence that symbolize the true spirit of UW-Whitewater.”

Hare will continue in that role until Aschenbrener begins his new post June 1.
