Movie magic at UW-Whitewater's 2011 Homecoming

October 05, 2011

You don't have to go to Hollywood to be surrounded by stars.

The glamour of tinsel town makes its way to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a Hollywood homecoming theme titled, "Lights. Camera. Homecoming." Festivities begin Oct. 21.

Student organizations will have a chance to compete for two trophies: the Champion's Trophy for the most points earned during homecoming and the Chancellor's Spirit Trophy for the organization who shows positive cheering, sportsmanship and spirit.

Student organizations have cast different Hollywood movies as the theme for their individual teams. Films like "V for Vendetta", "Easy A" and the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series are just some of the movies selected.

Student spirit game events include window painting, a variety show, ‘Bowling, Billiards and Brainiacs', a parade and games. New this year is the Movie Trailer event, which hopes to spark creativity and imagination.

"In the past we've done music videos, but with the Hollywood theme we thought we could spice it up, and have the different organizations grab a camera and make a movie," said Cody Schmittinger, Homecoming publicity coordinator.

The star-studded week concludes on Saturday, Oct. 29, with the parade on Main Street beginning at 10 a.m. The defending national champion football team takes on UW-Stevens Point at 1 p.m. in Perkins Stadium.

Warhawk swimming and soccer also have home competitions Oct. 29.
