Earth Week at UW-Whitewater
April 22, 2013
What started with the planting of a single tree at Timothy J. Hyland Hall has turned into an entire week devoted to environmental initiatives at UW-Whitewater.
Earth Week runs April 22-26. All of the campus events are free and open to the public.
One of the noted events this year includes the Recyclable Fashion Show -- a competition among student organizations to create outfits made from everyday recycled materials. The event is Wednesday, April 24, in Timmerman Auditorium from 4-5:30 p.m.
Judges will score outfits based on creativity, use of recycled items and overall appearance, with a prize awarded to the winner.
"Getting students to be aware of not only what they can recycle, but also how recycling can help campus, are the main goals of Earth Week," said Talia Schutz, coordinator. "It's a positive impact on your life and the lives of everyone else."
On April 24, Students Allied for a Green Earth (SAGE) will be working with students from a local elementary school to show them how to be more eco-friendly.
Other events include Race to Recycle (interactive recycle game), plastic bag collections, eco-workshops and much more.
SAGE, Student Art Association, the Water Council, Residence Life, American Marketing Association, and Creative Marketing Unlimited are sponsoring Earth Week.
