John Chenoweth named dean of the College of Business and Economics

Provost Beverly Kopper announced the appointment of John Chenoweth as the next dean of the College of Business and Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

“I am so pleased that Dr. John Chenoweth has agreed to serve as the next dean of the College of Business and Economics,” Kopper said. “He has been a strong leader in that college for a number of years and I trust that his vision for the future will continue the tradition of excellence that has made the College of Business and Economics one of the best business schools in the world. I know Dr. Chenoweth will continue to expand our national and international reputation.”

Chenoweth currently serves as associate dean and is responsible for administration and oversight of five master's degree programs and one doctorate program enrolling more than 700 students. He will assume his new role on Monday, Jan. 19.

“It is an honor and a privilege to have the opportunity to serve our students, faculty, staff, alumni and business partners in this leadership position,” Chenoweth said. “We have long been known as an exceptional business college and we will continue to focus on improving the region and providing our students with outstanding academic and professional experiences.”

The College of Business and Economics is recognized among the best business schools in the world. In March, AACSB International – the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business – reaccredited the college. Only five percent of business schools worldwide have been able to obtain this highest standard of accreditation.

Kopper thanked Lois Smith for her outstanding service as interim dean.

“Dr. Smith has always been ready and able to help out the college,” Kopper said. “She is quick to respond to any request with ‘Whatever the college needs.’ She has done an excellent job as interim and I greatly appreciate her support and dedication.”

A tenured faculty member in the Department of Information Technology and Supply Chain Management, Chenoweth is an active member of the campus community and has served in many capacities since arriving at UW-Whitewater in 2002. He received his Ed.D. in educational leadership and policy analysis from East Tennessee State University, a master’s degree in computer science from the University of South Dakota and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Augustana College.
