'Hawk Art

Working with a professional abstract artist, 11 students from UW-Whitewater collaborated on a striking art installation for the University Center. Merging different styles of art together, they’ve created a visual representation of Warhawk pride.

UW-Whitewater students and staff members are reflected in art in Eric Lee's Gurnee, Illinois, studio. Students went through an application process to participate in this experience, sponsored by Roberta's Art Gallery.

Eric Lee is a self-taught, abstract painter whose works consist of back-painted glass. He spent roughly 20 years as a technical consultant to architects and designers, and the influences on his work have been largely from outside the art world.

Lee consults with students as they merge lines and colors together.

Motivated by Lee's work, the group used a creative blend of colors to draw inspiration for the Warhawk.

The final piece consists of 12 panels, and each student had the opportunity to add his or her own personal style to their section.

Junior art major DeJuan Mason, left, says he enjoyed collaborating with the diverse group, which included students from a variety of majors.

The artwork is on display in the Warhawk Connection Center.

Colors, lines and personalities interact as UW-Whitewater students design, paint and install new artwork for the University Center. The final product is something the entire campus community can see and enjoy.
