Congratulations to the more than 1,400 undergraduate and graduate students who received degrees on May 12.
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater has named Greg Cook as the next associate vice chancellor for academic affairs.
Cook has held several positions at UW-Whitewater, including department chair and professor of psychology, and chair of the audit and review committee. Most recently, he served as director of academic assessment, where he spearheaded campus efforts for LEAP, a national program created to reinvigorate liberal arts learning.
The First Year Experience/Learning Communities office is pleased to announce that Lana Collet-Klingenberg has been named the faculty associate for the office. Collet-Klingenberg moves into this role after serving as interim director. She will oversee assessment and evaluation of the Learning Communities program as well as provide support to faculty members participating in Learning Communities. She is an associate professor in the Department of Special Education.
Kudos to students Chris Berryman, Jimmy Gardner, Amanda Kretschmer and Audrey Salerno, who won third place in an international Google mapping competition.
Kudos to Rex Hanger, associate professor of geography and geology, who was recently awarded a Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium award for participation in the 2012 NASA-sponsored Astrobiology Conference in Atlanta.

All student driver authorizations expire annually on Thursday, May 31. New student driver authorization forms need to be submitted to Risk Management and Safety when returning in the fall.
Extensions through summer can be granted if the student is working for the summer and/or is a currently enrolled student. Contact Risk Management and Safety prior to May 31 to request an extension.

As reported in the Chicago Tribune, the Bears signed seven of the 34 players who were in rookie minicamp over the weekend, including former UW-Whitewater quarterback Matt Blanchard.
The Janesville Gazette reported on a recent breakthrough by John Ejnik, assistant professor of chemistry, who is working with a local company to remove mercury from fish using the Marinade Express product.
