Kudos to Ramon Ortiz, director of PreCollege Programs, who was recently awarded a Milwaukee Area Workforce Investment Board grant valued at $26,250. The project is titled University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Upward Bound Earn and Learn Program and will provide 25 youths an opportunity to participate in work experiences and receive skills training in high growth/high demand areas.
Kudos to Kyle Naff, reference and instruction librarian, who won the 2012 Distinguished Leadership and Service award from the Business and Finance Division of the Special Libraries Association. Naff has been a member since 2004 and assumed the role of the division's webmaster in 2008. During his tenure, he completed two website redesigns and created the social media site for the division. In addition, he organized local fundraising functions for the Katie Memorial Foundation, a nonprofit that provides funding to public health graduate students to enable them to engage in international projects. His efforts have raised $1,465 for the program.
