bird seed donations
The FP&M Landscaping and Grounds Department is soliciting donations to provide bird seed for the bird feeding tree located adjacent to the Young Auditorium. A donation of $10 or more will be used solely for the purchase of bird seed. All donors will receive a certificate and a bronze leaf which will be stamped with words that the donor designates and the leaf will then be placed on the tree.
Please help our avian population to prosper and provide a natural diversion to our busy lives.
Send donations to: FP&M Landscaping Department, 500 North Fremont St., Whitewater, WI 53190
Make check payable to: UW-Whitewater Designate to: Bird Seed Fund, and also add a note stating what you would like printed on the leaf.
FROM THE Chancellor
Chancellor Richard Telfer talks with Warhawk gymnasts about hosting the NCGA national championship March 22-23.
FROM THE PROVOST
The campus community is invited to visit with Provost Beverly Kopper during her office hours on Wednesday, March 20, from 7:30 to 9 a.m. in the University Center Commons area.
Kudos to members of UW-Whitewater DECA, who won Wisconsin chapter of the year at the state competition in Madison, March 7-9. Students Brian Turner and Brandon McFadden were elected state officers -- president and parliamentarian, respectively.
Kudos to Pat Miller and the men's basketball team, who were nominated for the 2012 Wisconsin Sports Awards, including coach and team of the year.
Kudos to Whitney Henley, sexual assault prevention and wellness coordinator, who was recently awarded a $1,400 grant from the Office on Women's Health Prevention of Violence and Trauma. The purpose of this project is to create a student-led group to increase awareness of violence and trauma that disproportionately affects women.
Kudos to Roger Yin, professor of information technology and business education, who became a certified professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems, after passing a rigorous set of eligibility requirements and a certification examination. Only 1,700 certified IT professionals worldwide have earned this certificate.
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: FAIRHAVEN LECTURES
Food fills our bellies, brings families and cultures together and is the center of many traditions which remind us of our shared past. Food also is a source of power and struggle.
"Food for Thought," the theme of the spring Fairhaven Lecture Series, will examine whether we eat simply for sustenance or whether there is more to think about this everyday activity.
The next lecture is April 1 - "Beer Matters" by Karl Brown, lecturer in history.
All of the lectures will begin at 3 p.m. on Mondays in the Fellowship Hall of the Fairhaven Retirement Community, 435 W. Starin Road, Whitewater.
Knowledge Powers Wisconsin
UW-Whitewater is joining all other UW campuses in sharing how our students, faculty and staff members are making a difference in our respective regions and state-wide -- from economic development to the latest innovations in entrepreneurship, technology, health care, human resources and more. This week, read about Launch Pad, the innovative entrepreneurship program that helps students start their own businesses.
