freda briscoe wins uw system excellence award
Freda Briscoe, director of the Minority Business and Minority Teacher Preparation programs, is the 2013 University of Wisconsin System Academic Staff Excellence Award-winner.
Kudos to the Zeta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity, which was awarded the Phi Pi Phi Silver Cup by its national headquarters. This ranks them in the top 20 chapters in the nation of Alpha Sigma Phi. The award is decided by an annual report which rates a chapter's performance based on areas such as academic success, recruitment, chapter operations and service. Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity has 108 chapters and colonies across the nation.

Board of regents approves doctor of business degree
UW-Whitewater will become the only AACSB International-accredited university in Wisconsin to offer a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree, under a plan approved by the Regents.

Elements for success event
The Whitewater Incubation Program is hosting its next Elements for Success series event at the Whitewater University Technology Park Innovation Center at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1.
The featured speakers are Ronald "Bud" Gayhart, director of the Center for Innovation and Business Development, and Denise Ehlen, director of the Whitewater Incubation Program. The topic is GrowthWheel, a decision-making and action-planning tool enabling business advisers to work through a simple, action-oriented process with entrepreneurs. Certified GrowthWheel coaches will be available to provide one-to-one (and free) business coaching at the session.
The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
Faculty and staff members looking for artwork to hang in an office, conference room or campus space can stop by the current Crossman Gallery exhibit and view the works. Many, but not all, of the pieces can be loaned out. Many works in the permanent collection are available as well. If interested, email firstname.lastname@example.org.

discover whitewater series
Registration is now open for the Discover Whitewater Series. The event is Sunday, Sept. 22, and features a half-marathon, half-marathon relay, 5K, and fit kid shuffle. The course, which is USTAF-certified, will start and finish at the Whitewater Aquatic Center.
Proceeds from the event will go to five local organizations in an effort to build a stronger community. These organizations include: Bethel House, UW-Whitewater Athletics, W3 (Working for Whitewater's Wellness), Whitewater Unified School District to promote academic excellence, and the Whitewater Aquatic Center.
new uw system travel portal and self-booking tool
The UW System has awarded a three-year contract for travel management services to Fox World Travel, based in Oshkosh. This system-wide contract, effective Aug. 1, will replace the state contract currently used by UW institutions.
