Kudos to Jo Ann Oravec, associate professor of information technology and supply chain management, who presented at the World Future Society Conference in Chicago July 19-20. The title of her paper is "The Future of MOOCs and Social Media in Higher Education" and the title of the poster is "Social Media as Disseminators of Rumor and Disinformation."
Starting Friday, Aug. 9, at 8 a.m., the Touchnet/Student Billing system will be unavailable for use due to scheduled maintenance. The system will be available for use at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13.
PeopleSoft WINS will not be available from 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, until 8 a.m. Monday, Aug.12.
Dr. Lynsey Schwabrow has been named director of institutional research and planning at UW-Whitewater.
Christa Vrabel has been named UW-Whitewater's Web coordinator. Vrabel, who started in July, is responsible for developing and driving a comprehensive Web strategy that supports UW-Whitewater's mission. She is also responsible for leading campus efforts in completing the migration from Collage to Ingeniux (the new content management system).
Vrabel previously worked at Orbit Media Studios as a Web project manager. In that role, she developed and implemented digital marketing strategies for clients, including maintaining a consistent brand identity, creating information architectures, structuring content and brand message, and optimizing product content.
Provost Beverly Kopper invites the campus community to visit with her during regular office hours Wednesday, Aug. 7, from 7:30 - 8:45 a.m. in the University Center Commons area.
Registration is now open for the Discover Whitewater Series. The event is Sunday, Sept. 22, and features a half-marathon, half-marathon relay, 5K, and fit kid shuffle. The course, which is USTAF-certified, will start and finish at the Whitewater Aquatic Center.
Proceeds from the event will go to five local organizations in an effort to build a stronger community. These organizations include: Bethel House, UW-Whitewater Athletics, W3 (Working for Whitewater's Wellness), Whitewater Unified School District to promote academic excellence, and the Whitewater Aquatic Center.
Lt. Faye Schouten from Police Services will present two informational sessions called "In Case of Emergency" that will focus on what to do during various emergency situations. Read program flyer >>
They will be held in Hyer Hall room 320 on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 1:30 p.m. and Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 9 a.m. The sessions are sponsored by the Classified Staff Advisory Council Programming Committee.
