Kudos to Janay Alston, acadmic adviser, who was runner-up for the Best of the Ohio Academic Advising Association award. Alston presented "Would You Like a Glass of Water With That? Advising Students of the Millennium" at the annual conference in June in Columbus, Ohio.
On Thursday, Aug. 22, UW-Whitewater will host "Women in Higher Education Leadership." A meet-and-greet begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Hyland Hall atrium with a welcome by Provost Beverly Kopper. Keynote speaker Danae D. Davis, CEO of PEARLS for Teen Girls, will present "Leadership is all inclusive: Stepping into your leadership power" at 11 a.m. in Timmerman Auditorium.
The event is free and open to everyone.

On Tuesday, Aug. 27, George Mehaffy of AASCU will present "The Changing Landscape of Higher Education: Peril & Promise in a New Age."
In addition to the keynote, the day features several sessions, including a meet-and-greet, introduction of new faculty and staff members by Provost Beverly Kopper, lunch and workshop. Only the lunch and afternoon workshop require advance registration. Morning activities are open to all.

With passion and a competitive edge, the Forensics team has taken public speaking and turned it into an art form.
Last season, the team finished second at state and 11th at nationals, and will work to build on that success for the upcoming school year.
The University Bookstore will be having a sidewalk sale on Friday, Aug.16, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. outside the main entrance of Moraine Hall. If inclement weather occurs, the sale will be in the front entrance lobby.

Provost Beverly Kopper invites the campus community to visit with her during regular office hours Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 7:30 - 9 a.m. in the University Center Commons area.
Registration is now open for the Discover Whitewater Series. The event is Sunday, Sept. 22, and features a half-marathon, half-marathon relay, 5K, and fit kid shuffle. The course, which is USTAF-certified, will start and finish at the Whitewater Aquatic Center.
Proceeds from the event will go to five local organizations in an effort to build a stronger community. These organizations include: Bethel House, UW-Whitewater Athletics, W3 (Working for Whitewater's Wellness), Whitewater Unified School District to promote academic excellence, and the Whitewater Aquatic Center.
