Kudos to Jenny DuPuis, a junior journalism major, who won first place in the sports feature picture category, third place in the feature picture story category and honorable mention in the portrait/personality picture category in the Wisconsin News Photographers Association Student Pictures of the Year Contest on Thursday in Madison. DuPuis is a photographer for Marketing and Media Relations, Sports Information and Royal Purple student newspaper.

Kudos to Craig Schreiner, Marketing and Media Relations photographer, who won first place in the pictorial category in the WNPA professional contest.

Kudos to Erin Celello, assistant professor of languages and literatures, who won a Wisconsin Women in Government achievement award. Celello will be honored at a gala in Madison on May 6. Read more >>

Kudos to Linda Reid, director of the Institute for Water Business, who won a $155,000 UW System Incentive grant. It's part of a collaboration with UW-Milwaukee, the Water Council, UW-Parkside, regional businesses, startups and nonprofits to support catalyst grants in the water sector and launch an intensive aquaculture industry within the region.

Kudos to Lance Leipold and the UW-Whitewater football team for winning College Coach of the Year and College Team of the Year, respectively, at the third annual Wisconsin Sports Awards in Milwaukee on April 24.

Open Forums -- Director of Intercollegiate Athletics

The campus community is invited to attend open forums for the director of intercollegiate athletics candidates. All forums will be held in Timmerman Auditorium in Hyland Hall, room 1000 from 3-4 p.m. An email with links to candidates' resumes will be sent to campus later this week.

The Whitewater Incubation Program is hosting the spring 2014 Innovators' Showcase at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 2, at the Whitewater University Technology Park Innovation Center. Presentations will be followed by a reception and open house, featuring opportunities to meet with several regional innovators. The event is free to attend. The UW-Whitewater community is invited to attend the Comprehensive Campus Plan workshops on Wednesday, April 30, at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Thursday, May 1, at 8 a.m. and noon. The proposed recommendatons to campus will be presented and a questions-and-answer session will follow each presentaton. All sessions will take place in University Center room 275.

Walk a Mile in her Shoes

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is Tuesday, April 29, from 5-7 p.m., starting at Timmerman Auditorium in Hyland Hall. The event is an international march to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence. Participants attempt to walk a mile in women’s high heel shoes to raise awareness of these serious issues. All proceeds will go to People Against Domestic Abuse of Jefferson County. Register >>


The UW-Whitewater Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the Concert Band invite the public to both ensembles’ final program of the semester on Thursday, May 1, at 7:30 pm in Young Auditorium which features music by American composers in a tribute to our nation’s veterans.

Through April 30, Roberta's Art Gallery will be hosting "Let's LEAP: A Vision for Learning." This exhibit features displays demonstrating LEAP and its founding principles including projects implemented by peers, faculty, and staff as well as photography, student profiles, interactive activities and other artifacts.

The Legacy and Lessons of the Age of Lincoln

Fairhaven Senior Services and UW-Whitewater's Office of Continuing Education announce "The Legacy and Lessons of the Age of Lincoln" as the theme for the spring community lecture series.

The last lecture is May 5 - Federalism and the Secession Crisis of 1860-1861 by Larry Anderson, professor of political science.


New Look to Campus Master Calendar

Check out the new look to campus master calendar - events.uww.edu/MasterCalendar. This improved design is easier to navigate and read. Simply click the applicable calendar on the right panel of the page.

There are now two ways to submit an event. You can add an event by clicking “+ Add Event” on the right side of the page or login as a "guest" and "Submit Event."

You can subscribe to calendars and will be notified when a new event is added or changed, and events can be integrated with your Outlook calendar. Click the "Notifications/iCal Feeds" link on the right side of the page. If you previously signed up for the calendar feed, the transition should be seamless. Events will continue to sync with your calendar and will still receive event notifications.


Luke Langsjoen of UW-Madison will be speaking about the topic of Quantum Computing at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 12, in University Center room 259. The event is free and open to the public.

A panel of UW-Whitewater computer science graduates will also be available starting at noon, to discuss opportunities after graduation. Spring 2014 graduates will be recognized and refreshments will be provided.

Glow Run 5K

On Saturday, May 10, the UW-Whitewater PRSSA Chapter will be hosting a 5K Glow Run with 60 percent of the proceeds going towards the American Heart Association. Registration is 7 - 8 p.m. at Lawcon Picnic shelter on campus located behind Wells and Wellers halls. The run will continue until 9 p.m. with DJs and prizes along the way. The cost for one participant is $20 or $75 for five people. The entry fee includes a T-shirt, glow paint, glow sticks, food and beverages.

Photo Requests

All university photo requests can now be submitted via email at photo@uww.edu. This includes both requests for archive photos and requests for new photos.

Please be as specific as possible, and include all relevant information, including dates, times, places and names of people. You must also describe how the photos will be used.

Craig Schreiner, university photographer, will have open studio hours this semester on Wednesdays from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. in Andersen 1216. An email to photo@uww.edu or phone call to 262-472-5534 letting us know you are coming would be appreciated.


Young Auditorium’s Arts4All program hosts its second annual Zumbathon fundraising event. Arts4All provides students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds with the opportunity to attend performing arts events at a reduced price as part of their educational experience. The event is Saturday, May 10, from 10 a.m. to noon on the Young Auditorium stage.
