retirement celebration

The campus community is invited to a retirement celebration for Christine Clements, dean of the College of Business and Economics, from 3:30 - 5 p.m. Thursday, July 24, in University Center room 259. The event program will begin at 4 p.m.

If you have suits, ties, dresses, slacks and other business attire that you would like to donate for needy students please drop off these items at the circle drive between the University Center and McGraw Hall on Thursday, July 24, 7:30-8:30 a.m., noon-1:30 p.m. and 3:30-5:30 p.m.

Kudos to Scott Peters, assistant professor of educational foundations, who won the National Association for Gifted Children's Early Scholar Award for 2014.

Kudos to Brian Borland, assistant head football coach, who will be inducted into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Read more >> 

Kudos to Jo Ann Oravec, associate professor of Information Technology and Supply Chain Management, who presented the following paper at the 11th Annual Sloan Consortium Blended Learning Conference, held July 7-9 in Denver: "Blending the News: Incorporating Online News Services Into Higher Education Courses."

Summer institute

A nationally recognized expert on cultural diversity and disabilities is leading an upcoming UW-Whitewater seminar for educators.

Gloria Campbell-Whatley, an associate professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, will lead the 2014 Summer Institute Series, "Culturally Responsive Instruction and the Common Core Curriculum Standards."

The institute will take place August 6-7 and is sponsored by the Department of Special Education and the Office of Continuing Education and Graduate Studies. Read more >>

Provost Beverly Kopper invites the campus community to visit with her during her office hours on Wednesday, July 23, from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. in the University Center Commons area.

campus construction

Construction is underway on the West Campus Residence Hall--Phase 1 renovation. This project will continue through the end of 2015 and affects parking and utilities in Lot 8 and Koshkonong Drive. Fricker Hall is currently offline until fall 2015. Arey Hall will go offline next summer. Please be mindful of the construction area and follow all signs related to the project.

Construction questions can be directed to Ken Kramer or Tami McCullough at FPM. Questions specific to Residence Life operations can be directed to Dave Skelton or Mary Kaster at Residence Life.

New Student Convocation is a ceremonial event similar to commencement. This year's event involves faculty and staff wearing academic regalia. FYE is offering to cover the charges of the regalia rental. A campus-wide cookout will follow convocation in Gym 1 and outdoors (weather permitting). Lunch is free for faculty and staff.
