Campus Kudos
Kudos to Rimi Zakaria, assistant professor of management, who received a 2018-1 X-Culture Global Educator Award. The X-Culture Project provides students with first-hand experience in virtual international collaboration. Kham Xiong, a student in Zakaria’s spring 2018 International Management graduate course, was a member of an award-winning team and was honored with an invitation to attend the X-Culture Symposium on July 29-Aug. 4 at Macerata University in Macerata, Italy.
Kudos to Scott Peters, associate professor of educational foundations and Telfer Family Fellowship recipient, who has been named the editor for the National Association for Gifted Children and will lead their publication initiatives.
Kudos to Bob Benjamin, professor of physics, who is marking his 15th year as part of the operations of the Spitzer Space Telescope. “To me, one of the most amazing things about (the project) has been that 15 years in, we're still finding important new things about the Milky Way Galaxy in this dataset. It's a big galaxy and we're nowhere near done with the discoveries, he said.”
Kudos to Jo Ann Oravec, professor of information technology and supply chain management, who presented the paper "Outer Space and Empire: Controlling and Partitioning the Infinite" at the 2018 Telos Institute Europe Conference on Sept. 1 in Ragusa, Sicily.
Kudos to Eileen Hayes, dean of the College of Arts and Communication, who will speak at the annual conference of the New York Association of College Music Programs at Ithaca College in New York state, on Sept. 15. The topic is "Faculty Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Opportunity in Music." Hayes is president-elect of the College Music Society, the largest umbrella organization for the disciplines that comprise music in higher education, in the county.
Kudos to Department of Management faculty Megan Matthews and Jon Werner — along with contributors Kenyatta Barber, Ron Buchholz, Lynn DuPree, Jim Schnaedter and Julie Woletz — on the publication of a new textbook, “Business and Society: Building skills and awareness for the workplace.” The text was specifically developed for the college’s Business and Society 101 course, which is designed to provide freshman business majors a holistic overview of business and global societal issues.
