Flu vaccine and COVID-19 antigen testing now available at UHCS
 
With the COVID-19 pandemic, it has never been more important to get your flu shot and antigen testing. Appointments must be scheduled by calling 262-472-1300. The Whitewater campus offers appointments Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 a.m. at Ambrose Health Center, and the Rock County campus offers appointments 8-11 a.m. on Tuesdays in Hyatt Smith Hall. The flu shot costs $15 for students and the antigen test is free. Faculty and staff pay $20 for the flu shot.

AMA hosts largest virtual collegiate conference, wins awards in five competitions
 
If it’s possible to hit a virtual home run, the UW-Whitewater chapter of the American Marketing Association knocked one out of the park with its hosting of the 13th annual AMA Regional Conference on Oct. 9, 2020.

“Our American Marketing Chapter just completed a historic event,” said Jimmy Peltier, professor of marketing and an advisor to AMA since 1986. “We hosted the largest virtual AMA collegiate conference ever. This event has been in planning since July 1, and it has taken literally hundreds of hours to set up, run and complete post-conference tasks.”

Campus Kudos
Kudos to Julie Minikel-Lacocque, associate professor and chairperson in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, on publication in the Women in Sport and Physical Activity Journal of her research on gender identity denial. The article, “Liars, Cheaters, and Short-Haired Girls: Gender Identity Denial of Young Athletes,” examines gender-identity discrimination viewed through Critical Feminist Theory based on Minikel-Lacocque’s work with a focus group of young athletes, coaches and families. The City of Whitewater plans to hold in-person absentee voting sessions in the council chambers of the municipal building until 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 30. People may also register in person or at the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 3. For more information about absentee ballots, visit whitewater-wi.gov/168/Request-an-Absentee-Ballot. Please remember to wear your mask and continue to social distance as much as possible while voting.

Join us online to explore why beer matters. We will explore beer and brewing from ancient times to today’s international brewing conglomerates. The beery miracles of medieval saints, Prohibition, and beer in Wisconsin are just a couple of the topics in this course. Free meals available
Starting Tuesday, Sept. 1, free home-made, microwavable, take-home dinners will be distributed on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between 5 and 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church at 145 S.
