Kudos to Julie Minikel-Lacocque, associate professor and chairperson in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, on publication in the Women in Sport and Physical Activity Journal of her research on gender identity denial. The article, “Liars, Cheaters, and Short-Haired Girls: Gender Identity Denial of Young Athletes,” examines gender-identity discrimination viewed through Critical Feminist Theory based on Minikel-Lacocque’s work with a focus group of young athletes, coaches and families. Warhawks, make your plan to vote!
The City of Whitewater plans to hold in-person absentee voting sessions in the council chambers of the municipal building until 5 p.m., Friday, Oct. 30. People may also register in person or at the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 3. For more information about absentee ballots, visit whitewater-wi.gov/168/Request-an-Absentee-Ballot. Please remember to wear your mask and continue to social distance as much as possible while voting.
Beer Matters: Free online class
Join us online to explore why beer matters. We will explore beer and brewing from ancient times to today’s international brewing conglomerates. The beery miracles of medieval saints, Prohibition, and beer in Wisconsin are just a couple of the topics in this course. Join other beer fans, homebrewers, and history buffs in online discussions and virtual meet-ups with Karl Brown, associate professor of history and former professional brewer.

Free meals available
Starting Tuesday, Sept. 1, free home-made, microwavable, take-home dinners will be distributed on Tuesday and Thursday evenings between 5 and 7 p.m. at First United Methodist Church at 145 S. Prairie Street, Whitewater. Individuals will receive three meals at each pickup through a no-contact window on the side of the building.
