Cheer on Warhawks in Dec. 6 quarterfinal game against Wartburg College

After big victories in the first and second rounds of the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III championship tournament, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football Warhawks are pressing on to defend their title. UW-Whitewater pummeled Saint John’s University, 37-7 on Nov. 22 in the first round of the tournament and then defeated Willamette University, 37-27 on Nov. 29 in the second round.
The defending national champions, 11-1, will host the Wartburg College Knights, 10-2, at noon Saturday, Dec. 6. The quaterfinal of the NCAA Division III championship tournament battle will go down at Perkins Stadium.
“This is our last home football game in 2008,” Paul Plinske, UW-Whietwater Athletic Director, said. “The Warhawks need all the support they can get to beat Wartburg and advance to the semifinals."
Warhawk fans are encouraged to attend. Before the game, a Warhawk fan appreciation tailgate will take place. Free chili, hot cocoa, coffee and soda will be provided at the Coulthart Family Pavilion at 10:30 a.m. The tailgate is courtesy of Chartwells.
There are 500 free tickets also available to UW-Whitewater students courtesy of UW-Whitewater Residence Life and UW-Whitewater Student Leadership. The tickets are available on a first-come, first-serve basis; one ticket per student with a valid student ID. Residence hall students may pick up their ticket at Goodhue Hall at the first floor desk between 7 a.m.-10 p.m. All other UW-Whitewater students may pick up their ticket at the Career and Leadership Office, University Center 146, between 8:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday.
“Student turnout really helps excite the team and the atmosphere of the game,” Head Coach Lance Leipold said. “There are only eight teams left in the NCAA tournament. This will be an outstanding game between two good football teams.”
