Paralympic TV special featuring Warhawk men’s wheelchair basketball players to air Dec. 6 on NBC
Released: December 3, 3008
It is still possible to catch the amazing performances of three University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men’s wheelchair basketball players who represented the U.S. wheelchair basketball team at the Beijing Paralympics this past September. NBC will re-broadcast a special presentation of the Paralympic Games at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6.
The 90-minute documentary is narrated by NBC Sports’ Bob Costas and chronicles the remarkable moments of the top U.S. Paralympic athletes. The special features the journey of eight determined athletes plus the U.S. wheelchair basketball team. Members of the U.S. team include current Warhawk Joe Chambers, junior; former Warhawk Matt Scott; and current UW-Whitewater Head Coach Jeremy Lade. The documentary gives viewers an in-depth look at these outstanding athletes as they trained for and competed in the 2008 games in September.
“It was very exciting to have the chance to be a part of a team where you can support your country,” said Lade. “It was also really cool to travel with these people to Beijing to understand a different culture and gain new experiences.”
