Steve Summers named interim vice chancellor of student affairs
Steve Summers has held many different positions during his time at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and he's adding another one to that already substantial list. Summers will serve as Interim Assistant Chancellor for Student Affairs. He is taking over for Barb Jones who accepted a position at Miami University in Ohio.
"It is an honor to be selected by Chancellor Telfer to the position of Interim Assistant Chancellor for Student Affairs," Summers said. "The division is staffed by a competent, experienced and creative team."
If the Summers name sounds familiar, that's because the Stephen H. and Donna M. Summers Auditorium is named after him and his wife. Summers has been with UW-Whitewater for more than 40 years. He started out as a residence hall director after receiving his bachelor and master's degrees at Eastern Illinois University. He also served as director of student activities and in 1973 completed his doctoral work in educational administration at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. From 1974 to 1991, Summers served as the University Center executive director.
In addition to these duties, Summers served as the advisor to the Whitewater Student Government for more than 15 years. He has served as the advisor to the Segregated University Fee Allocation Committee since the UW System merger in the early 1970s. These advising roles display his passion and dedication to the university and its students and he plans to continue with that passion and dedication is his new post.
"I intend to provide leadership, vision and support to the Student Affairs staff as we continue to make significant contributions to student success and to the UW-Whitewater Strategic Plan," Summers said.
The search for a permanent assistant chancellor will begin this fall. In the meantime, any comments can be directed to Summers at 262-472-1172 or summerss@uww.edu
