Michael Baumhardt, a senior human resource major from Fond du Lac, was a recipient of the James R. Connor Student Leader Award. Baumhardt also received a $5,000 J.J. Keller & Associates Prospera University Program Scholarship.
Janalyn Bump, a senior vocal performance major from Cambria, was a finalist in the Wisconsin Public Radio Neale-Silva Young Artist competition. She was the only vocalist to make the finals.
Phillip Castillo, a general business major from Racine, presented his research, "Juror compensation in Wisconsin," at "Posters in the Rotunda: A Celebration of Undergraduate Research," held March 5, 2008, in the State Capitol Building.
Katie Colombo, a psychology major from West Allis, had her dance piece, "Sozzled Soirée," performed at the American College Dance Festival Association's Gala Concert at Western Michigan University March 5-9, 2008.
Gwynne DeBoer, a double major in Spanish and biology from Franklin, presented her research, "Clarifying the natural history of the class III lineage in the HD-ZIP gene family," at "Posters in the Rotunda: A Celebration of Undergraduate Research," held March 5, 2008, in the State Capitol Building. DeBoer was also one of two featured student speakers at the event.
Scott Elsner, a music major from Poynette, reinstated and currently directs the Warhawk Pep Pand. Elsner was also published in the January/February edition of Halftime Magazine in the "Behind the Baton" section for his story of how he brought back the pep band.
Ben Fiess of Watertown, a senior art major, was awarded the Dahle Family Memorial Scholarship in fall 2007.
Darren Hafford, a senior electronic media major from Beloit, worked at the Sundance Film Festival Jan. 17-27, 2008, in Park City, Utah, interviewing celebrities on the red carpet.
Stephanie Heine, a sophomore from Mukwonago, had her dance piece, "Nebulae," performed at the American College Dance Festival Association's Gala Concert at Western Michigan University March 5-9, 2008.
Tyler King of Jefferson, a sophomore theatre major, was awarded the Dahle Family Memorial Scholarship in fall 2007.
Kelly Kleinhans, a senior elementary education major, was given the James R. Connor Student Leader Award this year. Kleinhans was also extended the honor of being invited to the National Collegiate Honors Conference for the second year in a row.
Julie Paucek, a senior from Sullivan, received the university's most prestigious student award, the 2007-08 McGraw Award. The award is given to the student that displays excellence in their academic careers, personal achievements and community involvement.
John Pettey, a history major from Janesville, presented his research, "Effects of the Christian Missionary Movement on Arab Nationalism in Lebanon and Syria in the nineteenth century," at "Posters in the Rotunda: A Celebration of Undergraduate Research," held March 5, 2008, in the State Capitol Building.
Eric Phillips, a physics major from Greendale, presented his research, "Mapping the structure of the galaxy using infrared star counts from 2MASS," at "Posters in the Rotunda: A Celebration of Undergraduate Research," held March 5, 2008, in the State Capitol Building.
Josh Roe, a biology major from Madison, presented his research, "Effect calcium has on an Arabadopsis thaliana mutant," at "Posters in the Rotunda: A Celebration of Undergraduate Research," held March 2008 in the State Capitol Building.

Cassandra Schillo, a sophomore stage management major from Westmont, Ill., was the recipient of the Kennedy Center Region III American College Theatre Festival Award for Excellence in Sound Design for the UW-Whitewater production of "Terra Nova." Schillo is the first regional winner in UW-Whitewater history.
Jessica Solis, a biology major from Mukwonago, presented her research, "The initial characterization of where and when a functional circadian system is present in the eye during early development in Xenopus Laevis," at "Posters in the Rotunda: A Celebration of Undergraduate Research," held March 5, 2008, in the State Capitol Building.
Katie VanBeek, of Mayville, Wis., was awarded a $1,000 J. J. Keller & Associates Prospera University Program Scholarship in fall 2007. VanBeek, a senior human resource management major, was one of six to receive a scholarship drawing from a pool of more than 90 eligible candidates.
