UW-Whitewater Campus-Based Summer Institute Series
- A focused, structured three-year process for initial educators to receive mentorship and support to create, reflect, refine, document, and verify successful completion of PDPs.
- A process for professional educators seeking the option of writing PDPs rather than taking six credits to renew their licenses in 2006, 2007, and 2008.
- A process that guides professionals to examine the relationship between their professional growth and development and student learning outcomes.
- Nationally recognized keynote speakers focusing on topics relevant to professional development
- Opportunities to engage in learning communities with other regional initial educators, experienced professionals, and university faculty across disciplines
These one-credit Institutes can be taken for undergraduate or graduate credit. Graduate credits can be applied to Master of Science Degrees in Education and/or the PDP Graduate Certificate Program.
Development Plan - 1 credit
This institute is designed to prepare initial and professional educators to use reflection tools to gauge their current level of performance based on the Wisconsin Educator Standards. Each participant will write a Professional Development Plan (PDP) for the next 3-5 years and leave the Institute with an approved plan that is ready to implement. Specific support will be provided on how educators can begin to collect and analyze data related to their PDP goals that show professional growth and a positive impact on student learning. 1 ½ days campus based and 4 hours web-based.
Development Plan - 1 credit
This institute is designed to help initial educators engage in learning communities with other educators and faculty to share and refine content , strategies and best practices related to common goals on their PDP's. Speakers and focus groups will be designed based on participant's goals. One day campus-based and 8 hours on-line.
EDUINDP 412/612 Verification of Your Professional
Development Plan - 1 credit
This institute builds on prior learning from the previous summer institutes and provides the final verification process of the PDP with the Initial Educator Review Team members (1 day campus based and additional support on-line for PDP refinements).
