There are some changes to camps being offered this year. Is my favorite camp (GEAR UP, Arts and Humanities, Science and Technology, Business and Commerce) still being offered?
This year, we are excited to offer some new enjoyable and academically challenging camps for participants. These camps will have similar goals and activities to previous years' camps.
Can I fax my camp application packet?
How many camps can my child attend?
Students may attend up to three DPI scholarship activities each year which allows a student to attend up to three (3) camps in the summer if the scholarships were not used for other activities during the academic year. You will be notified by letter if your child has been accepted to a specific camp.
Can students who live out of state (not in Wisconsin) apply for camps?
We encourage everyone interested, including out-of-state individuals, to apply for camps. However, priority registration is given to in-state (Wisconsin) individuals who qualify for free/reduced lunch.
How much does camp cost?
Camp costs include all food, lodging, and activities associated with the camp. There is no cost to you through the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) Scholarship [for free/reduced lunch eligible individuals]. PreCollege Programs also covers a portion of costs. We encourage everyone interested (including those not eligible for free/reduced lunch) to apply for camps; students eligible for free/reduced lunch have priority admission to camps.
How does my child get to the UW-Whitewater campus for camp?
Campers should have a parent or guardian bring them to camps. On check in day we have a parent orientation where important information regarding your child's experience will be shared. Also, please be on time to pick your child up at the end of the camp; we will have closing activities you may want to see and UWW staff will be preparing for the arrival of new guests.
Is this an overnight camp?
Yes, this is a residential camp. Students sleep in the UW-Whitewater Residence Halls, eat at the dining facilities, and participate in activities all over campus. If you are attending a camp that extends longer than one week, please be sure to check the details regarding weekend attendance for the specific camp.
How can I find out what my child is doing while at camp?
Please come back to the PreCollege Website often! While the staff is out and about having fun and learning new things with your child, we will post agendas, pictures, and news from each of the camps.
What do students eat while on campus?
Students are provided with three nutritious meals per day. Most of those meals are eaten in a dining hall on campus; while a few meals are consumed at eateries local to the area of a field trip.
Does my child sit in a classroom all day?
No! While we provide many interactive academic activities, we are not in class all day. Students participate in daily, age appropriate, recreational and cultural activities. We also take weekly field trips within the region. These field trips include visits to other college campuses where students can hear about programs related to camp focused majors. Finally, we make sure all students hear about the great resources on the UW-Whitewater campus should they decide to pursue their post secondary educational goals with us.
