Provost Search
Meeting Minutes
September 23, 2008
PRESENT: Pat Casey, Denise Ehlen, Sara Kuhl, Hephzibah Kumpaty, Randy Marnocha, Richard McGregory, Barbara Monfils, Praveen Parboteeah, Mary Pinkerton
ABSENT: Dakota Cox, Jeff Herriott, Jeff Janz, Tonilee Piechura
GUESTS: Eric Barber, Chancellor Telfer
John Stone thanked the group for agreeing to serve on the committee and relayed to the group that he’s pleased to chair the search. An aggressive timeline has been established.
Chancellor Telfer was present to outline his expectations. There are several administrative positions on campus that must be filled, but there are two in particular that are critical; namely, the Provost and the Assistant Chancellor for Student Affairs. Both must be filled prior to commencing with the searches for the other administrative positions. Chancellor Telfer would like the Provost named as soon as possible so this person can be a part of the other searches – even if that person is not yet on campus.
The Chancellor’s wish list for the candidate selected for the position includes:
- must be both an academic leader and an institutional leader, someone capable of being in charge of the whole university when the Chancellor is not available.
- must share the vision of the campus (strategic mission).
- must strive for regional involvement by helping the university become more involved in outreach and academic programs.
- must be hands-on and detail oriented, not necessarily autocratic, but on-task.
- must be optimistic with a “going forward” attitude – to get to a better place.
