WELCOME TO THE 2008-2009 PROVOST SEARCH AND SCREEN

UW-Whitewater seeks a visionary academic leader to serve as the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is the Chief Academic Officer of the university and reports directly to the Chancellor. The Provost is a member of the Chancellor’s Administrative Staff and serves as the ranking university officer on campus in the Chancellor’s absence.

Qualifications
The Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs will hold a terminal degree and have demonstrated experience as a teacher/scholar qualifying the candidate for tenure and appointment at the rank of full professor. Applicants should also provide evidence of:

  • Academic and institutional leadership, including the ability to passionately promote a campus vision while managing hands-on details.
  • Experience with complex budgets, and the ability to (re)align resources to accomplish strategic outcomes.
  • Expanding the academic reach of an institution through innovative and effective regional engagement and outreach.
  • A commitment to shared governance, academic assessment, and advancement in diversity and inclusivity initiatives.
  • A history of promoting excellence in teaching, scholarly/creative achievement and service.
  • An understanding of current and future challenges and opportunities facing regional comprehensive universities.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, attitudes, and collaborative tendencies manifest in working effectively with diverse constituencies on and off-campus.

Responsibilities
The Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is the academic leader of the institution, and is responsible for administering all academic programs in association with the Deans and other members of the Academic Affairs staff, as well as: ensuring and enhancing the quality of undergraduate and graduate education; planning, developing, coordinating, and evaluating academic programs in ways that assure academic quality; overseeing the appointment, review, and professional development of unclassified staff; ensuring progress in the accomplishment of the institution’s affirmative action initiatives; planning, acquiring, and allocating resources in ways that fulfill the accomplishment of the mission and strategic plan of the university; and representing the institution within the UW System and before agencies and constituencies outside the System as necessary.

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is a premier comprehensive university and is one of 13 universities in the University of Wisconsin System. It has an enrollment of approximately 11,000 students in 46 undergraduate and 12 graduate programs in the four Colleges of Arts and Communication, Business and Economics, Education, and Letters and Sciences, with 1030 faculty, academic and classified staff members. Located in the scenic Kettle Moraine area of southeastern Wisconsin, UW-Whitewater is a regional cultural and resource center within convenient driving distance to Madison, Milwaukee and Chicago.
