Warhawks Prepare to Shine Internationally
On March 10th, our women’s team reached its goal by winning the first National Champion title since it was founded four years ago. For most of the team, that was when the season ended until the next Warhawk season begins in September. For some, it was even time to say goodbye to the program. But for four of our veteran players, practices continue:
Mareike Adermann, Desiree Miller, Becca Murray and Sarah Binsfeld are still regular guests at Whitewater’s gym facilities as they prepare for the Paralympics 2012. Desiree, Becca and Sarah will be representing Team USA along with Whitewater’s Women’s Head Coach Dan Price while Mareike will represent Team Germany.
At the end of March, during Spring Break, it was already time for all of them to go to the first training camps with their teams.
Team USA met in Birmingham, AL to get together, bond and begin their conditioning to start their fight for the highest of all awards – a Paralympic Gold Medal.
At the same time, Team Germany began to prepare for the same goal in Frankfurt, Germany.
A week later, over Easter, Great Britain hosted a tournament with Germany and France. During this competition all teams were still focused on testing their players, which Mareike used to show her abilities. She scored the second most points for her team (62 in six games) and started three times.
We will continue to report from competitions throughout the summer and keep you updated on our athletes’ road to London, where the Paralympics will be held in September 2012.
