Psychological science seeks answers to myriad questions about human thought, emotion and behavior. Psychology majors will receive fundamental training in psychological methodologies and will become acquainted with a wide variety of psychological topics, including the relationship between physiology and behavior, the processes through which people acquire and use information, and the factors that influence social, emotional, and cognitive development in both adaptive and maladaptive directions.
The Psychology Department offers students several options for planning their college career. The psychology major prepares students with a broad education, flexible outlook, and essential skills - including critical thinking, writing, data-driven decision making, and problem solving - for employment in various business and social services settings. The psychology major curriculum also allows students to consider graduate programs in psychology. In particular, the Scientist-Practitioner Graduate School Preparation Emphasis is especially designed for students anticipating graduate study in practice-related fields such as clinical psychology, counseling psychology, and school psychology. The Psychological Sciences Graduate School Preparation Emphasis is especially designed for students anticipating graduate study in fields such as social psychology, developmental psychology, and cognitive psychology.
