What the Schedule Planner Will Do For You

  • Allows you to select courses you wish to enroll in for a term.
  • Allows you to lock in a preferred section for a course.
  • Allows you to lock in sections based on specific instructor(s).
  • Allows you to add time block(s) when you cannot take courses.
  • Will generate all the potential schedule variations based on available course sections and your designated time blocks.
  • Will allow you to compare up to 4 schedules side-by-side.
  • Allows you to create and save Favorites Schedules.
  • Will send your selected schedule to your WINS Enrollment Shopping Cart.
  • Will email your selected schedule(s) to whomever you enter.
  • Schedule Planner is ADA Compliant.

What Schedule Planner Will Not Do For You

  • Will not enroll you in classes.
  • Will not check for requisites.
  • Will not save you a seat in a class.

Break - A time period which the Schedule Generator will not offer any class sections
Course - An offering of a given subject within a department.
Course-Section - A course offered at a specific date and time in which a student may enroll.
Schedule Generator - A tool which takes into consideration your selected courses and breaks for a given term and then returns all possible schedule combinations.
Schedule Planner - A tool used by students that generates potential schedule alternatives based on courses selected and break times entered.
Schedule Planner Launch Page - A page within WINS which is opened up when the Schedule Planner hyperlink is selected within the Student Center.  When a user is done with their Schedule Planner session, the student returns to this page and from this page can be re-directed into the course enrollment process.

information Information - Returns additional information about the course and section.

delete Delete - Deletes the selected course or break from consideration.

lock Lock - Select this button to LOCK in a particular section of a class from within your scheduling grid.

back Back - Takes you BACK to the previous screen.

text only Text Only - When selected, walks the user through the Schedule Planner process in a text only mode which is ADA compliant.

edit Edit - Allows the user to go into the line break line item and update it.

compare Compare - Click on this button to visually review different schedule alternatives side-by-side.

shuffle Shuffle - This button will randomize the display order of potential schedule alternatives.

advanced  Advanced Filters - Enables the user to limit their class searches to specific instructor(s).


  • To log in, go to www.uww.edu, click on WINS, then Log into WINS.
  • To launch Schedule Planner, click on Student Center, then under Academics, click on Schedule Planner.
  • On the Student Planner page, click 'Add Courses' to the next term.
  • Click 'Add Breaks' to block off times when you cannot take a class.
  • Select 'Generate Schedules' to see all possible schedules, taking into account the desired courses and breaks previously entered.
  • Click 'View' to see each possible schedule.
  • From the View Screen, click the 'Shopping Cart' button to begin registration.

  • Select a Term.  Select 'Save & Continue'.
  • Adjust the Class Search filters to search for your desired courses.  Select 'Change'.
  • Select the appropriate option for career (Undergraduate or Graduate or All Academic Careers).  Select 'Save'.
  • Adjust the rest of the search parameters as needed.  Select 'Change' to the right of the corresponding search parameter.  Make the necessary selection(s).
  • Now, add courses in which you with to enroll.  Select '+Add Course'.

IMPORTANT - Always remember to log out of your account when you are done.


  • Select '+Add Break'.
  • In the next screen, give the break a Name, a Start Time, an End Time, and Select the applicable Days of the Week
  • Select '+Add Break'.  
  • The break which you just created is now part of the schedule generator process.
  • You can add additional breaks if needed by repeating the steps above.  Then multiple breaks will be part of the Schedule Generator process.

  • In Schedule Planner, select '+Add Course'.
  • Select a Subject from the Subject List.
  • Select a Course from the Course List.
  • Select '+Add Course'.  You will get a confirmation at the top of the screen that your selection has been added.  Select '< Back'.
  • The course has now been added to your list.  Repeat the steps above for any additional courses in which you would like to be enrolled.
  • Additional courses will appear under 'Courses' on the Schedule Planner homepage.

  • Select '+Add Course'.
  • Select 'Search by Gen Ed. requirement', then enter the specific Search Parameters.
  • Select '+Add'.  You will get a confirmation message at the top of the screen.
  • The Gen Ed course is now added to your course list.  Select '< Back'.
  • The Gen Ed course is now added to this page's course list as well.  To add more Gen Ed courses to your list, repeat the steps above.

  • To see all of the class-sections available for a specific course, select 'Options'.
  • To get more details about a specific section, select the 'i' in blue on the left.
  • Once you've completed reviewing the additional information about the class section, again select the 'i' in blue on the left to collapse the details.
  • You can select and de-select sections to match your preferences.  Don't forget about looking at more pages, if available.
  • Once you've completed making your selections, select 'Save & Close'.
  • You are returned to the Schedule Planner Home page.  You will receive a green confirmation message at the top of the screen.

  • Select 'Generate Schedules'.
  • By running the Schedule Generator, a number of potential schedules were generated which can be reviewed and compared. (See Generated Schedules Count in green, under Schedules.)

  • From the list of generated schedule alternatives, select 'View' on a single schedule about which you would like to see more details.

  • Running the Schedule Generator generates a number of potential schedule alternatives that can be review and compared.
  • Schedule Planner allows you to view up to 4 potential schedule alternatives side-by-side.  From the list of potential schedules, check up to 4 potential schedules that you would like to compare.  Click 'Compare'.
  • Returned for comparison are the schedule alternatives which you selected.  To review a schedule in more detail, select the appropriate 'Open' button beneath the corresponding schedule.

  • From the list of generated schedules, select 'View' for a schedule alternative which you are interested in reviewing.
  • Within a generated schedule which you reviewing, select open lock icon next to a section you would like to lock.  The lock icon will update to appear closed and locked.  Select 'Back'.
  • With a specific class section locked, you need to regenerate your schedule alternatives by selecting 'Generate Schedules'.  
  • Notice how your number of potential schedules decreases based on locking in on a single class-section.  (See the Generated Schedules count at the bottom of the screen in green.)

  • From the list of generated schedules, select 'View' for a schedule alternative which you are interested in reviewing.
  • Within a generated schedule which you reviewing, select 'Email'.
  • Enter recipient email the To field, CC field (if applicable), and a Message. Select 'Email Schedule'.

  • Within a generated schedule which you reviewing, select 'Send to Shopping Cart'.
  • Select 'OK'.
  • Return to the browser window which still has the Schedule Planner Launch Page open.
  • Select 'Course Enrollment'.
  • Select the Term for which you want to register. NOTE: The term selected, MUST BE the SAME term you were working with in Schedule Planner.
  • Select 'import cart'.
  • You are now on the standard WINS Class Enrollment page. Any questions about how to proceed from this point please refer to WINS Enrollment How To Guide.

  • Select 'Options' next to the subject which you want to limit sections based on instructor.
  • Select the 'Advanced Filters' button.
  • Click on the text box next to Instructors.
  • Select the instructors which you would like to limit your choices by.
          - You can include multiple instructors in your search.
  • Click on the 'Save Filters' button.
  • Click on the 'Back' button.
