The relationship that exists between your son/daughter as a student and UW-Whitewater is obvious and direct. But are you puzzled about how you as parents fit into this picture? How can you offer suggestions, have questions answered, or become involved in the numerous activities sponsored on campus?
Family members of UW-Whitewater students are considered an integral part of our university family as well. Beginning in the fall of 1986, a program was offered to bring parents closer to the services and people on campus, to keep you involved and informed. This program is the UW-Whitewater V.I.P. (Very Important Parents) Association.
Membership in the V.I.P. Association does not mean volunteering countless hours to the University! (You can, however, volunteer if you wish!) But it does mean that you will be kept informed of policy and program changes, honors for our students, faculty, and staff, and invited to programs planned especially for our members. All members receive the Parents Calendar, a condensed guide to the University with important dates listed, and Parents Address, the newsletter co-sponsored by a number of University offices. Families of first year students are automatically members of the V.I.P. Association. Families may then renew membership with any contribution to this Foundation account.
The V.I.P. Association is guided by a Board of Directors consisting of V.I.P. members and University representatives. These individuals volunteer their time to help plan events and set the course for the organization. Past and upcoming events include:
- our annual R&R Stations on move-in day
- Family Day
- support for the campus SafeWalk program
- sales of V.I.P. Association merchandise to raise money for our scholarship program
- block seating at athletic events
