RecycleMania is a friendly competition between colleges and universities across the U.S. and Canada to see who can recycle the most materials over a 10 week period during spring semester. The goal of RecycleMania is to raise awareness of recycling issues on participating campuses by engaging students, staff and faculty in different events that highlight the importance of recycling to promote the competition. Please visit the RecycleMania website for more information about this competition.
UW-Whitewater is participating in RecycleMania this year and we need individuals and organizations to help us lead the charge to recycling glory! Planning begins during the middle of fall semester, so don't delay, but it is never too late to get involved! Please contact the Sustainability Coordinator for more information.
The first week of RecycleMania starts on February 6, 2011 and we need student organizations to put on recycling-themed events! There is no need to make your event "official"; anything you can do to raise recycling awareness on campus is appreciated. Please contact me if you have any ideas that you would like help planning or promoting. Some event ideas include:
- Recycling pledge drive
- Recycling "Olympics"
- Tabling in the UC and handing out Acceptable Materials lists.
- Trash sort
- Recycling art contest
- Recycling drive to collect old electronics, clothing, food, cell phones, batteries, plastic bags, etc
- Sell reusable containers with your student organization's name/logo on it
- And much more!!!
Again, just get in touch with your friendly neighborhood Sustainability Coordinator if you are interested in leading UWW to recycling excellence!
