More students share about how the UHP has enriched them

My name is Gabriella Salamone (Gabi); I am going to be a junior at Whitewater (or a third year senior) in 2016-17, and I am an Elementary Education Major and a Spanish Education Minor.  My most meaningful experience in the UHP was being a member of the Honors Advantage Learning Community.  I am so grateful that I was given the opportunity to join this LC because it allowed me to feel and become more welcomed, involved, and active in the University Honors Program.  I have grown from being a part of the UHP by not only being an active member in the UHP and the Honors Student Association (HSA), but also taking on leadership roles: I am the Vice President of HSA in 2016-17, and the Peer Mentor for the Honors Advantage LC in 2015-16 and 2016-17.  Because of the UHP, I have been able to take part in these great opportunities and experiences during my college career at Whitewater.  I really enjoyed taking part in the Honors Open House during the spring, and hopefully positively impacting and influencing prospective first-year students to join the UHP.

I am Liza Thies, a senior double majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders and Spanish.  My favorite experience in the UHP was going to the haunted house Forest of Freaks with UHP students.  Since then, my roommates and I have gone every year for three years as a Halloween tradition.  I also joined the Honors Learning Community freshman year and have met some of my closest college friends from that group.  I really like the Honors Program because the curriculum is a bit different from the other General Education courses and the class sizes are even smaller, so you can really get to know your classmates.  It is also great to have a community with such different interests because Honors students in the program and the student org, Honors Student Association (HSA), are not grouped by major.  The HSA allows me to stay connected with my friends I met freshman year who I don’t see much anymore, and I really value that time.
