Speaker Services:

Need a SPEAKER for your class, floor or organization?
Try the UHCS Healthy Campus Speaker Service

WHAT: The Healthy Campus Speaker Service is a FREE service that provides speakers on a wide variety of health and counseling issues. 

A few possibilities are:

WHO: The staff of the UHCS includes nurses, physicians, social workers, psychologists and other health professionals.

WHY: Your course includes health or counseling topics and you are looking for an expert to speak to your class. 
You will be gone from campus for the day and need someone to cover your class. 
Your hall or organization has expressed interest in learning more about their health and well being.

WHERE: Our staff will come to you and bring all supplies except AV equipment.

WHEN: Day or evening, during the academic year.

HOW: Fill out the Reservation form for student organizations and residence halls or Reservations form for classroom speakers at least two weeks in advance. After speaker availability is confirmed, you will receive a confirmation letter stating what audio visual equipment, if any, is needed.

Bulletin board Kits
Kits available for check out for free for one month by RA’s on the following topics: (pictures of kits)

Kits are available in the Residence Life Pro shops or at UHCS.

To check out a kit from UHCS, just Fill out Reservervation form for bulletin board kits or come to room 2003 of the Health Center and fill out a form. You may keep the kit for a month.

Then just take it down, put it back in the folder and return it to room 2003 Health Center.

Program Kits
"Program in a box" kits are available to students. Everything you need to present a fun and informative one hour program in a box! Each kit contains a detailed outline and all materials. Instructions on checking out a program.

Contraception: You Decide -
Participants learn about all forms of contraception by working in small groups to prioritize the methods as to effectiveness, cost, ease of use and side effects. Samples of all methods and information are provided for each small group. Outline and handouts are included.

Dating & Relationships -
Fun activities help participants figure out - how do I meet someone? What kind of person do I want to date? Where can I meet someone great? What can we do for not a lot of money? Now that I have a romantic partner, how do I build emotional intimacy? What is the role of touching? Outline, supplies for activities, video and handouts included.

Healthy Eating On and Off Campus -
The "You Are What You Eat" video was produced specifically for college students. Participants will learn how to eat well both on and off campus; how to read food labels; and design a healthy eating plan for themselves. Outline, video, activities and handouts are provided.

Relaxation -
Participants learn the elements of eliciting the relaxation response. A stretching exercise and taped relaxation exercise are included. Outline, audio tape and handouts provided.

Safer Sex -
Participants practice putting condoms on correctly, assess the risk of various sexual behaviors, participate in a game show, and practice talking about safer sex. Outline, condoms, bananas, game prizes and handouts are provided.

Sexual Communication: Getting the Dialogue Started -
Participants discuss the difficulties people have discussing sex with a potential partner, male and female difference in communication and strategies to use. Outline, video and handouts included.

Procedure to check out a program:

  1. Call 472-1305 or email brueggek@uww.edu at least two weeks in advance to reserve the kit. You can reserve the kit for 3 days prior to your program to give you time to practice it.
  2. Pick up the kit in room 2003, 3 days before your program. Bring your student ID. Sign the check out form.
  3. Familiarize yourself with the kit. Practice the program. Obtain any AV equipment you might need.
  4. Have a Great Program!!
  5. Have all participants fill out evaluation forms. Put them back in the kit. Fill out your presenter's evaluation form and put it back in the kit.
  6. Make sure all items except handouts and prizes you distributed are back in the kit and return it the next day to room 2003. Make sure that a staff member signs the check-out form to verify that you did return it.
  7. If any items are missing or broken from misuse, you will be billed the replacement cost.
