From the experts at UHCS:
Since Pap guidelines changed a couple years ago, many women question if they should still come in every year for an annual well woman exam. The answer is YES! The Pap smear is just one of many important components of promoting health throughout your lifespan. Annual women’s wellness exams usually include a review of medications, including birth control options, verification that you’re up to date on immunizations, a discussion about nutrition and family history, and a physical exam. Lab tests and medication refills are also commonly included, as indicated.
At UHCS, we also know that your health extends well beyond the doors of our clinic, so we’re here to help empower you to become an informed consumer of health information and health services and an active participant in your own health.
Are you worried about the cost of paying for your reproductive health care needs? Concerned about your partner/guardian seeing insurance claims for your birth control? While we encourage open communication with your partner/guardian as you are able, your health should not be compromised by avoidance of services due to confidentiality concerns or cost. If you are a woman of reproductive age, you may qualify for the Family Planning Only Services program in Wisconsin.
