Requests for Special Events or for Funding of a Project or Program

All requests to conduct special events using College Advancement Officers and requests to raise money to fund a new or existing project or program will follow the following procedures.

Requests for Funding

All requests for funding must receive the endorsement of the appropriate Department Chair or Department Director and/or Dean, Athletic Director, or appropriate Assistant Chancellor to ensure the proposal is consistent with the long-range plans of that department and the college or division. The Dean, Athletic Director, or Assistant Chancellor will forward the requests to the Chancellor of the University. When the Chancellor has determined that the request is consistent with the long-range plans and priorities of UW-Whitewater, he/she will sign the application and forward it to the Assistant Chancellor for University Advancement.

Once a completed application is submitted, the Assistant Chancellor for University Advancement will evaluate the staff and volunteer time needed to raise the funds. If the Assistant Chancellor determines that it is feasible to sponsor the effort within ongoing activities, the Assistant Chancellor will, in consultation with the Chancellor and the Dean, Athletic Director, or appropriate Assistant Chancellor, assign the fund raising project a priority ranking and include it appropriately in the fund raising goals of the division. The College Advancement Officer and other University Advancement staff involved will keep the Assistant Chancellor informed of progress.

If the Assistant Chancellor determines that the fund raising effort will necessitate additional financial or staffing resources, the Assistant Chancellor will refer the request back to the Chancellor for his/her approval of expanded fund raising activities requiring increased operational funding. Once the necessary funding is authorized and in place, fundraising will be undertaken in keeping with the project's assigned priority ranking.

Requests for Special Events

All requests for involvement of the College Advancement Officer in college special event activities must first receive the endorsement of the Department Chair and/or Dean and then be submitted to the Assistant Chancellor for University Advancement. Requests must include the nature of the event, the anticipated time required of the Advancement Officer, the purpose for including the Advancement Officer, and the benefits anticipated from the Advancement Officer's participation. The Assistant Chancellor will weigh this rationale against the Advancement Officers' principle duties and goals for the year before approving the request, which will not be unreasonably withheld.
