The meeting was called to order by Kim Adams, past president, in the absence of Tom Hinspater at 4:05 p.m. Present: Frank Bartlett, Barb Dickens, Linda Kinson, Carol Miller, Kathy Schumacher, Kim Simes, and Wes Therrian. Absent: Tom Hinspater.

Secretary’s Report – The secretary’s report for the March 3, 2008, meeting was approved on a Schumacher/Simes motion.

Treasurer’s Report – There are seven members who still have an outstanding dues balance. On a Schumacher/Miller motion, the resignation of Kent Wahlberg was accepted with regret. Frank Bartlett proposed that Toys for Kids and Breakfast with Santa funds be combined in one account but still show the appropriate funds for each. On a Simes/Kinson motion, this was unanimously approved. Therrian moved that the treasurer’s report be approved. Kinson seconded and the report was approved.

Old Business – Barb Dickens reported on the shelter which will be built for the Optimist Park. The actual cost of the shelter will be $5,995 with freight not to exceed $1,500. The shelter will measure either 12 x 20 or 16 x 16. Kim Simes moved that the shelter project funds be increased to $7,495 to be voted on by the membership. Wes Therrian seconded. The motion carried. The membership will be notified by e-mail of the vote to take place next week. Barb also reported that the city will be responsible for the cement and a sidewalk in the park. The sidewalk should be located by the Turtle Mound Circle entrance.

Emily Ganser will be sponsored ($175) by our club to attend the Wisconsin Leadership Conference. On a Simes/Bartlett motion this youth grant passed unanimously.

New Business – The SWIS 3 rd Quarter Conference is scheduled for May 2-3, 2008, at Kalahari. The oratorical contest will be held at that time. Both Kim Adams and Kathy Schumacher expressed an interest in going.

The club needs to pay $50 and sign the vendor’s agreement to secure our spot for the gyro stand at the Fourth of July festivities this summer (July 3-6). Frank will send the check.

Kathy Schumacher discussed the upcoming Optimist elections. She is having difficulty filling the president-elect position.

Kim Adams announced that she has been asked to run for district governor for 2011. She is weighing the pros and cons. The International Optimist Conference will be held in Milwaukee in 2011. Kim is looking for club support – both financially and helping her with various Optimist obligations as governor.

Kim Adams discussed the Fountain to Fountain event on April 26. More help is still needed. She will send around a sign-up sheet. Tom Hinspater can get tables and chairs. Bob Barry and Mike Ciardo will help put up the tent.

Kim Simes reported on the upcoming Greg & Steve concert on April 12. The club purchased 50 tickets and received an additional 25 complimentary tickets. They will be distributed from the Whitewater Food Pantry to those in need.

The post prom is in need of additional workers for May 10. Wes Therrian will call the Hawk Bowl. Wes will also contact Shannon Schumacher or Kelly Strait regarding Tri-Star Soccer.

Kim Simes announced that the theme of the Relay for Life this year is “Around the World for a Cure.”

Kim Simes moved and Kathy Schumacher seconded that the meeting be adjourned. The meeting was adjourned at 4:50.

Respectfully submitted,

Carol Miller
