Board Meeting Minutes

May 5, 2008

The meeting was called by President Tom Hinspater at 4:05 p.m. Present: Kim Adams, Frank Bartlett, Tom Hinspater, Carol Miller, Kathy Schumacher, and Wes Therrian. Absent: Barb Dickens, Linda Kinson, and Kim Simes.

Secretary’s Report - The minutes of the April 7, 2008, meeting were approved as written on a Schumacher/Bartlett motion.

Treasurer’s Report - Frank Bartlett gave the dues collection update. We are still missing dues from a few members. A request for a Catholic Stewardship Appeal was denied. The Board also believes that we should not renew our raffle license at this time. Therrian/Adams motion passed unanimously approving the Treasurer’s Report.

Old Business – It was suggested that Duane Dickens and Jim Miller contact Matt Amundson of the Whitewater Recreation Department to see if and when the city was going to order the shelter for the Optimist Park. It would be nice if a check could be presented to him on May 13 when he will be our guest speaker. Carol will check with Mills. Update: Mills spoke with Matt. Our club will be invited to a June City Council meeting where the check will be presented to the city.

Carol Miller asked if Emily Ganser had ever been contacted regarding her request for funds to attend a leadership camp this summer. Tom Hinspater will contact Emily.

New Business – Al Hutchison will present our club’s scholarships to students from Whitewater High School on May 22, the awards night.

Upcoming events were discussed. Kathy Schumacher moved that we sponsor a local golf tournament at the Whitewater Country Club for the kids in the junior golf program (ages 7-17) not to exceed $500. Wes Therrian seconded. Motion carried. Nicole Thompson is the chair of the event.

Dave Halbach has volunteered to chair Soccer Skills competition on May 31 with a rain date of June 1.

The Gyro stand will be operating on July 3, 4, 5, and 6 with lots of volunteers needed to staff the stand.

Kim Adams also reminded the board of other upcoming events: football craze raffle, Jefferson County Fair, and baseball skills competition.

Bruce Parker will be planting the pumpkin patch with the little children on May 21 and 22.

A request was received that we donate funds for a scholarship to go to a Whitewater High School student of Latino origin who plans on attending UW-Whitewater. Kathy Schumacher moved that we provide $100 for such a scholarship; Carol Miller seconded it. Motion approved unanimously.

Kathy will present the slate of officers at Tuesday’s meeting.

The meeting was adjourned on a Schumacher/Bartlett motion at 4:50 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Carol Miller
Secretary
