Board Meeting Minutes

July 7, 2008

The meeting was called to order by President Tom Hinspater at 4:05 p.m. Present: Frank Bartlett, Barb Dickens, Tom Hinspater, Carol Miller, Kathy Schumacher, and Kim Simes. Absent: Kim Adams, Linda Kinson, and Wes Therrian.

Secretary’s Report – The minutes of the June 2, 2008, meeting were approved as written on a Dickens/Simes motion.

Treasurer’s Report – Frank Bartlett gave a financial report for the month of June. Our income less expenses for the month of June was (158.61). It was noted that our Sunshine Fund is depleted. Carol Miller suggested that we should do more with our Sunshine Fund – babies being born, illnesses, deaths in the family, etc. Kathy Schumacher said she would put that on the docket when the club’s budget is being finalized for next year. A letter from the president on past-due club dues was reviewed and approved.

Old Business – Barb Dickens gave a brief report on the Optimist Park shelter. We still don’t know exactly when it will be delivered. Kathy Schumacher and Kim Adams have not yet met regarding rejuvenating club membership and participation. Kathy is hoping that Kim Simes can work with them. A NOW program will be held the 2 nd Tuesday in September.

New Business – A letter from a local girl requested funds to attend a gymnastics camp in Texas. On a Miller/Simes motion that recommended funding her $100, the motion was defeated – 2 ayes, 3 nays, and 2 abstentions. Barb Dickens indicated the gyro stand for the Fourth of July celebration had again done very well. A formal report will be given later. Kathy Schumacher said everything is all set for ticket taking at the Jefferson County Fair for Wednesday, July 9. Nearly all spots are filled. Kim Simes reported that the Relay for Life team is full. Chartwells will be selling food for the event. All proceeds after expenses will go toward our team’s funds. Thank you, Chartwells! Kathy Schumacher reminded the board that there will also be a corn roast. Nicole Thompson could still use some volunteers for the Youth Golf Tourney slated for August 11 at the Whitewater Country Club. The KMOR is scheduled to take place on September 27. Frank Bartlett will begin circulating a sign-up sheet for football ticket takers. The first game is Friday, September 5 at 7:00 p.m. A chair(s) is needed for the installation banquet to be held at the end of September. Kathy Schumacher said she would like to see it held at the Cravath Lake Building again with Chartwells doing the catering. Tom Hinspater said that could be arranged. Thanks again to Chartwells! Discussion followed on a possible new location for Breakfast with Santa. Carol Miller wanted the board to be aware that the BWS committee is looking at Esker Dining Hall as the new location – a discussion will be held with the members for their thoughts.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:45 p.m.

Respecfully submitted,

Carol Miller
