The minutes from the last meeting (ACPC) were approved on an Adams/Bartlett motion. Bartlett gave the treasurer’s report which was approved on a Simes/Dickens motion. Members are reminded to get their annual dues in by the end of November.
Old Business
Hinspater announced that Youth Appreciation Week is next week and chaired by Therese Kennedy. He will check to make sure that all events are covered. Tom will also follow up with Don Zahn on our Food Drive for Thanksgiving. Kim Adams announced that our club and the student club will be Christmas caroling at Fairhaven on Thursday, December 6. Carolers will meet in the lobby at 4:30 and will sing until 6 p.m. Kathy Schumacher encouraged caroling on the second floor as well as for residents in apartments. Tom will check to see that we have a chair for the Mitten Tree. Kim Simes suggested that we not only give mittens to the school district but also to the day cares in Whitewater. Kim also suggested that we take up a collection at an Optimist meeting as some of our members may not want to go shopping for mittens, hats, scarves, and gloves. Kim would be willing to do that. Barb Dickens will check with the Middle School and High School to see if those Optimists would want to have a Mitten Tree. Toys for Kids will again be chaired by Duane and Barb Dickens.
Upcoming meetings/events include: Football Playoffs. November 27 – Kathy Schumacher volunteered to do a social activity which will include fun competition and prizes. November 30 – Holiday parade (???) December 4 – Stuffing the holiday treat bagsfor Breakfast withSanta. December 7 – Decorating for BWS. December 8 – Breakfast with Santa. December 11 – Toy Exchange. December 11 or 18 – Mitten Tree.
Our donation to the Optimist Park was discussed. We are hoping to provide a shelter or additional playground equipment to the park. Is there a possibility that there could be a bathroom? Frank Bartlett indicated that our CD for over $5,000 would become due in early December. On a Schumacher/Simes motion, it passed that the CD for over $5,000 would be converted to cash now. Discussion followed on which bank(s) our club should use. This was tabled.
Tom Hinspater announced that Nicole Thompson has volunteered to chair the Junior GolfTournament in the spring.
New Business
Kathy Schumacher moved that we should purchase a domain name for $100 for 5 years. Seconded by Kim Adams and passed unanimously.
The meeting location for next semester was discussed. The Bookstore will be moving into Esker so we will need to move. Everyone agreed that we should move back to the University Center. Kim suggested we meet in Room 259. Tom will submit a room reservation form. He will also speak to Bob Barry regarding the location.
A request was made from the Student Optimist Club for a cash donation between $500 and $1,000 to support their trip to Jamaica during spring break March 24-30. The Board approved $700 in support as that amount was already in the budget. A larger donation may be made in the future depending on their fundraising success.
The meeting was adjourned at 5 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Carol Miller
Secretary
